For my social commentary I plan on drawing a boy whom is crouched down on the ground as it appears he may be crying. I want to draw this photograph with maybe a sunset behind the boy making him appear as a silhouette. I want to scatter empty water bottles around him as well to add something to fill in space and show the turmoil he's been through due to the lack of water and food. I want to be very simplistic with this piece and I thing it will represent the World Hunger approach for my social commentary. I will be executing this piece with graphite and a positive attitude.
For my meta piece, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun to make and I’m really happy with the end product. Towards the end I started to get lazy and I didn’t want anything to do with it at that point in time. Eventually I sucked it up and got to working anyway. I did away with the color because I thought it looked juvenile and I wanted to stick to my roots. If I had to start over I would draw less seaweed, especially where the jellyfish tentacles meet the seaweed. I think in that area of the piece they just blend together, the seaweed should be a tad darker and maybe that would’ve help with the blending together issue. Overall I’m really happy and proud I finished this piece correctly and I truly believe this is my best work in the portfolio course.
For my finished social com piece, I did pretty much everything I expected to do. I think the clouds turned out nicely (I did them the same way on the meta piece) giving the work a very stylized look in the background. The bottles are what troubled me most, just the shape and reflective look I tried to give just didn’t turn out. Fortunately they’re not the focus of the piece, where as the boy is. I think the silhouette turned out nicely. I think I nailed the shape compared to the photo. I simply outlined him and shared him in. I like how this piece is straight to the point and is very upfront. I think it delivers a powerful message despite the artistic simplicity of the whole thing. I enjoyed working on this and sorry it’s so late.
I just wanted to give a personal thanks to you Mrs. Maclay for making my 1st marking period mornings enjoyable. I truly enjoyed Portfolio and I don’t believe it would’ve been the same without you. Thank you for showing compassion in what you do, and helping me believe I can “art”. You’re a really special teacher and it saddens me there are some students who will never have you. Again thank you for everything, and keep doing what you’re doing. Hope you have an awesome day (hopefully after you read all this crap I wrote) and a good second MP. I will visit when possible, Tyler. :)
